Generally, I'm not one for Valentine's Day. It never holds a candle [sic] to Kiki's Birthday - an event eminetly more worthy of celebration. Still, here's our favorite love song.
I Want You
Holly Cole ~ Temptation
The thing that strikes me
about this song is how simple it is. This arrangement is certainly more
lush than Tom Waits' original recording, but the sentiment is the same.
Love is so simultaneously complex and primal, why try to quantify it?
Just feel it. That's what we did when this instrumental was performed
for our wedding ceremony.
Below is a link to my favorite radio piece of all time. You may
be surprised to find it ain't Car Talk. It's from Ira Glass' series,
"This American Life." While all four pieces are interesting, the last
one was riveting to me. More specifically, it's Sarah Vowell reading
her essay, "The Greatest Love Story of the 20th Century."
It begins at the 47 minute mark on the bar and lasts 10 minutes.
This American Life 247 | What Is This Thing?
In her essay, Sarah Vowell chronicles the love of Johnny and June
Carter Cash. I was washing the car when first I heard it. I just sat
there on the passenger seat, transfixed at this amazing recount of
their love and the song, "Ring Of Fire."
